Pathology Technology Australia is the peak body representing Australian sponsors, manufacturers and distributors of in vitro diagnostics and innovative Pathology Technology. Pathology Technology Australia is the peak body representing the innovative providers of pathology solutions in Australia. The power of our technologies, diagnostic tests, and our industry are the drivers of innovative healthcare strategies and outcomes. Our solutions are most often found in public and private pathology laboratories across Australia, and increasingly at the point-of-care, for HIV, diabetes and home pregnancy tests. Our Members adhere to the Pathology Technology Industry Code of Practice, engaging in ethical corporate conduct with healthcare professionals and organisations. In vitro (literally "in glass") diagnostics (IVDs) comprise the instruments and reagents that are used to perform pathology tests requested by General Practitioners or specialist Physicians. These tests are generally performed in accredited Public and Private pathology laboratories across Australia, but IVDs also include over-the-counter tests such as blood glucose meters for diabetes testing or home pregnancy test kits. Supply of IVD products is regulated for the Government by the Therapeutic Goods Administration. Australia’s leading manufacturers formed Pathology Technology Australia in July 2009 (known then as IVD Australia) and we currently represent Australian manufacturers, multi-national and local distributors of IVDs, as well as regulatory consultants working in the Pathology Technology sector. Our industry currently supplies products valued at just under AUD 1 billion per annum and they employ over 2,500 staff in multinationals, local distributors, local manufacturers and exporters and regulatory consultant companies; the majority of which are SMEs. Pathology Technology Australia is a founding member of Pathology Awareness Australia, a group that represents interests across the entire field of pathology in Australia. This body is conducting the Know Pathology, Know Healthcare Campaign on behalf of public pathology laboratories, private pathology companies, pathology professionals and manufacturers and suppliers to industry.
