PTA Member Nutromics publishes important study in Nature Biotechnology
PTA member and Australian Innovator Nutromics are pioneers in the wearable and skin patch diagnostic technology space.

Nutromics are based in Melbourne and have been a members of PTA for 3 years.
Despite their groundbreaking research and translation, the final stages to reach commercialisation have been challenging. As with many Australian innovators, the barriers here to full commercialisation are extremely high, especially for IVD startups.
PTA CEO, Dean Whiting, who is also a member of the Australian Medical Manufacturing Alliance advisory panel, says “Nutromics is yet another example of high value Australian innovation, addressing a clear unmet medical need and that could be delivering high tech manufacturing jobs, export income and improving patient outcomes, held back by these barriers. So many innovative companies like Nutromics either close up or move offshore, depriving Australia of the benefits they could deliver.”
While funding the basic medical research is critical for keeping the pipeline full, the final steps to successful commercialisation are basically ignored. Instead, substantial barriers are placed in the way.
“Its time to change this paradigm,” says Dean. “We need a clear vision for healthcare in Australia, which can guide medical innovation and pull high value technology through the system to commercialisation and sovereign manufacturing capability.”
