Last week, we made a monumental step forward in national healthcare readiness. We are immensely proud to officially launch the Asia-Pacific Centre of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Diagnosis, a landmark collaboration between NeuRA (Neuroscience Research Australia) and Roche Diagnostics Australia.
We were honored to welcome The Hon. Mark Butler MP, Federal Minister for Health and Aged Care, The Hon Matt Thistlethwaite, Asst. Minister for Foreign Affairs & Trade, Consul General to the Swiss Embassy, Mrs Elisabeth Bösch Malinen, and Economic Officer to the Swiss Embassy, Mrs @Daniela Plassard, to the NeuRA HQ to mark this decisive milestone. Their presence underlines the national and global importance of building healthcare systems ready for early detection.
For decades, receiving an Alzheimer’s diagnosis has meant navigating a complex, time-consuming waiting game reliant on hard-to-access PET scans or invasive spinal taps. This Centre of Excellence is built to dismantle those operational bottlenecks:
– Simple, Fast, and Non-Invasive: Harnessing cutting-edge technology to provide objective diagnostic clarity from a routine blood sample.
– System Readiness in Action: Supporting the priorities of the National Dementia Action Plan by strengthening clinician education, refining models of care, and generating real-world evidence.
– Equitable Access for All: Generating the vital Australian data needed to support a future MBS application paving the way for subsidised, affordable diagnostic access so that specialists across the country can order straightforward rule-in, rule-out blood tests for their patients, across Australia.
Catching neurodegenerative changes early gives clinicians, patients, and families the answers they need to make informed care decisions when it matters most.
