PTAC 2024

PTAC 2024

The focus for the Pathology Technology Australia Congress (PTA-C) is how pathology technology will impact the future of healthcare.  This inaugural Technology in Healthcare Congress and Expo, held in Sydney March 11-13, 2024, brought together over 180 thought leaders, technology experts, and decision-makers in health to address some of the big health system challenges we face:

Access & Equity – does your postcode dictate your healthcare outcome?

Multi-omics and technology evolution – how do we integrate rapidly evolving technology to benefit all?

Saving lives, the economy, and the planet – what role does technology play in addressing global challenges?

Over 38 experts in healthcare participated in plenary presentations, panel discussions, and focused workshops to seek understanding of the barriers and opportunities related to the above themes and find consensus driven paths forward. This was held under the backdrop of a full technology expo including cutting-edge presentations on the latest technology solutions across two and a bit days of fully-catered networking at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf.

PTA-C/24 saw more than 160 healthcare stakeholders from a broad cross section come together for 2 days to examine the role of technology in addressing 3 key challenges facing healthcare in Australia:

  • Does your postcode dictate your healthcare outcome?
  • Have we been left behind in the technology race?
  • How can technology address some of the biggest issues facing Australians and our health?

The outcomes from PTA-C/24 continue to reverberate in the healthcare ecosystem.

The format of PTA-C and the data driven activities were lauded as a unique and valuable model to follow for future events. A key benefit of data capture during the Congress is the consensus-driven communique. The power in this consensus comes from diverse representation of major healthcare stakeholders, adding weight to the observations and recommendations.

The Minister for Health, Mark Butler MP and the shadow minister, Senator Anne Ruston, both requested copies of this report reinforcing the growing call for a paradigm change in the way healthcare is delivered in Australia.
